Description / Psyllium flour
It is obtained by gently grinding the seeds of Plantago psyllium, an annual herbaceous plant. The resulting flour is characterized by the high content of mucilage (like flaxseed), a soluble fiber with emollient, protective, laxative , and constipating effects.
These fibers swell up to 25 times their weight, drawing fluid into the intestinal lumen and stimulating peristalsis . They are also excellent for the opposite purpose, such as absorbing excess intestinal fluid (such as diarrhea).
Psyllium flour also has a probiotic effect (it promotes the growth of acidophilic bacteria in the intestine at the expense of putrefactive ones). It is also widely used in the preparation of gluten-free products, thanks to its thickening and bulking properties.
How to use:
In consultation with your doctor, it is recommended to dissolve the product in water. To avoid or at least limit intestinal disorders related to the intake of the product (flatulence, gas, bloating, and diarrhea), it is advisable to take psyllium flour at the same time every day. For the same reason, start with very small doses and increase them day by day until reaching the desired dietary dose. Alternatively, in variable amounts depending on your needs and the ingredients used, for the preparation of gluten-free baked goods.
Does this product contain gluten?
The company that packages this product ( Laboratorio Bioline Srl ) is implementing a self-regulated packaging process to minimize the risk of contamination from cereals containing gluten (this process will be completed by the end of 2017). In the meantime, it only packages certified gluten-free products (meaning no cereals containing gluten or derivatives are packaged in the same environment). However, the self-regulated process that will be implemented will aim to strengthen controls (primarily product analysis) and minimize any potential contamination due to reasons other than the packaging of gluten-free cereals (e.g., possible presence in the air within the plant, on staff clothing, on packaging containers, etc.). Until this self-regulated process is implemented, Laboratorio Bioline prefers not to market the product with the " gluten-free " claim, even though the risk of contamination is very rare.
