Description / Chia (seeds) 450g ORGANIC
Chia seeds ( Salvia hispanica ) are small, oval, and grayish in color with dark spots. The plant from which these seeds are derived has numerous beneficial properties: the Aztecs cultivated it because they considered it a source of strength, as its name suggests: "Chia" in Aztec means "strength," and it is said that it was thanks to its seeds that Aztec warriors drew the strength to win battles; furthermore, according to tradition, chia was so prized that the population gave it as a gift to rulers.
The substances contained in Chia seeds
Legends aside, chia seeds are truly an excellent natural source of Omega 3 fatty acids , containing 15 grams per 100 grams of product, practically eight times more than salmon , making them the perfect alternative for those who don't eat fish and don't know how to get these precious fats.
Furthermore, chia seeds contain antioxidants, fiber, mucilage, minerals, and vitamins, especially B and C , making them an ideal natural dietary supplement. Among the main minerals they contain are calcium (which is more absorbable than that found in cow's milk), iron (three times more than spinach), magnesium (15 times more than broccoli), and potassium (twice as much as bananas).
Chia seeds are gluten-free, have a low glycemic index, and are high in protein (about 21%). At the same time, they can absorb nine times their weight in water, making them particularly beneficial for intestinal transit: by absorbing water, they create a gel that collects waste and toxins from the intestine and incorporates them into the stool, thus combating irritable bowel syndrome and constipation.
Omega-3
Of all the sources of Omega 3 fatty acids, chia seeds have the highest concentration of alpha-linolenic acid: 10 g of chia seeds contain 1.52 g (8 times more Omega 3 than salmon!)
Recommendations from international health organizations regarding Omega-3 and Omega-6 recommend that the ratio between them should be approximately 3 to 1 (just like the content of Chia seeds).
Chia seeds have an oil content of 30% (of which 64% is OMEGA 3), making them an excellent substitute for fish oil: higher concentration, cheaper, no unpleasant odor/taste.
They also contain vitamins and mineral salts
- 7 times more Vitamin Cthan Oranges
- 5 times more calciumthan milk
- 3 times more ironthan spinach
- 2 times more potassiumthan bananas
- 15 times more magnesiumthan broccoli
Other important nutritional characteristics
Chia has 4 times more antioxidants than blueberries and contains 18 amino acids, including the essential ones (excluding Taurine): note the high content of Lysine, Methionine and Cysteine.
There are also NO heavy metals! (sometimes present in fish oil).
