De Italiaanse naam van de vrucht is Peruaanse alchechengi of uciuva. De vrucht heeft een ronde vorm, is geel, zoet en klein (tussen 1,25 en 2 cm in diameter), en het aroma kan worden beschreven als een zoete tomaat met een nasmaak van ananas en vanille.
