Very often we regretfully have to throw away stale bread that we have at home, unaware that we could use it to cook a delicious Bread Pizza. In fact, bread that is a few days old can be used to prepare a tasty and genuine dish. Let’s take a look at the recipe for this easy, quick, and very economical treat and learn how to prepare it step by step.

Ingredients

  • Oregano (to taste)
  • 70 ml of water
  • 500g of stale bread
  • 350g of smoked scamorza (or mozzarella or provola)
  • 50g of breadcrumbs
  • 50ml of extra virgin olive oil (preferably organic)
  • Garlic (to taste)
  • Salt (to taste)
  • 300ml of tomato passata
  • Grated Parmesan (to taste)

Preparing the Sauce

Let’s start by preparing the sauce that will be placed on our Bread Pizza. Place a pan with some oil on the stove and heat it up. Then add some garlic and let it brown. When the oil is hot, add the passata, season with salt, and let it cook covered on low heat. Once ready, remove the garlic and let our sauce cool down.

Preparing the Bread Base

While the sauce is cooling, set the oven to 180° and grease a low baking dish suitable for cooking pizzas of 24 cm. Cover the bottom of the dish with the stale bread, pressing it down slightly to create a flat and even layer. Cover it with the cooled sauce and sprinkle with grated cheese. Then cover everything with the scamorza previously cut into cubes. Drizzle a little oil over our Bread Pizza and sprinkle with oregano. Next, we need to bake everything for about 25 minutes in an oven that should have been preheated to 180°. Now our Bread Pizza will be ready, and we can serve it hot to our guests, who will surely appreciate this simple, genuine, and delicious dish.
